The individual pieces are made from copper and bronze and soldered or riveted together. The bull skull was acid etched in copper. This piece can be hooked on a wall.
FAMILY CREST
My grandparents and great-grandparents were farmers. This piece was a tribute to my family and the history of agriculture in India.
Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy and has existed in the country since 9000 BC. Traditionally, the entire family would take part in raising crops like wheat, rice, maize, etc. and use hand-tools and bulls for most operations.
Although farming doesn't exist in my family anymore I made the crop heads to represent me and my parents and the physical distance between us. Also, Indians serve food on banana leaf which forms the back plate of this piece
SENSORIUM EAR-RINGS
Reticulation is a unique process that forms beautiful patterns on alloyed metals. This project started with thinking about different terrains and attempting to create a surface seen on earth or other planet.
A silver (80%) and copper (20%) alloy after reticulation leaves you with a piece with multiple folds and complexities similar to the patterns and formations of this universe. Its wide expanse is held together with energy transforming from one form to another continuously.
This inspired me to look within and replicate the human nervous system instead. The stones represent human brain and the wires and reticulation plate form the nerves. The brain being the one that holds all intentions and awareness together and the nerves being its multiple facets.
LACE AGATE PENDANT
Lace Agate is a stone found in northern Mexico. It has vibrant colors and lace like patterns which are believed to have calming, soothing effect on its bearer and said to improve focus and emotional balance.
This stone was set in a textured bronze base that would celebrate its natural ornamental and spiritual value along with representing of the land that it came from. The rivets add an interesting dimension to it.
SNEAKY CROC BRACELET
The theme behind this bracelet was to juxtapose a deadly and dangerous animal from the wild. Crocodiles live in marshlands and can hide behind grass and mud. The part of the crocodile tail riveted on the bracelet represents that camouflaging quality and the greenish-blue patina-ed copper shows the marshy environment.
This piece is made from sheet copper and silver rivets. The green patina is formed when copper is fumed with ammonia for 3-5 days. Liver of sulfur makes the copper look black.
The flared bronze ring has a twisted copper ring floating in the middle. I often find myself twiddling with it when I am anxious. Just playing with it helps in stress-relief.
These rings have lost their original polished surface after but they don't seem to need it anymore because the natural patina on them which has come with age says a lot for them
RINgs for thought
When I started working with metals and making jewelry, I knew very little about its effects in my daily life and my emotions.
I made this Peacock Feather ring which has sharp ends and could be used as a weapon in case of danger. It is bold and beautiful and makes me feel the same way when I wear it. In a way, it gives me courage and strength to keep going.
